About Rachelle
Rachelle is a self-taught artist and business owner originally from Gary, Indiana. In 2009, she packed up her car and drove to Los Angeles with dreams of making it in the entertainment industry. After a few years of working odd jobs and doing background work on films and TV shows, Rachelle decided to move back to the Midwest to be closer to family.
It was during this time that she started dabbling in creating art from found objects. She would scour antique stores for old items that had seen better days and turn them into something new and beautiful.
Her creative process starts by finding pieces that have character but need a little bit of love before they are complete. Next, she cleans the item or scuffs it up so that paint will adhere better; this adds character as well. Finally, she assembles all the materials needed for painting – such as paintbrushes, rags, rollers or sponges – alongside any embellishments (such as faux jewels) or other accessories (such as ribbons).
Joining Our Team
We’re excited to announce that Judy Maxwell Home, a shop of fun curiosities in Chicago, is joining our team! Joan Cusack, the owner and curator, has a keen eye for unusual and one-of-a-kind items, and we can’t wait to share her finds with our readers.
She said she had been looking for a new home for her store, which was previously located on Milwaukee Avenue in Wicker Park, and after months of searching for the perfect fit she found us. The process was very thorough, she said about meeting with Etsy sellers to see if they were a good fit for the store. They were curious about what I do and asked great questions. And we’re very happy to have found her!
